PAID ADVERTISEMENT HAPPY SUMMERTIME, BUT PLEASE PAY ATTENTION So, I know that it can be difficult to be happy right now, when people are not paying attention to details, But the Governor's proposed vetoes are the best way to explain to people why they need to vote for Democrats and Independents. Elections matter, and voting for Republicans, or not voting at all, is not good for you or your family. We could have had as much as one bilion dollars in additional revenue, this year, without any income tax. WE JUST HAD OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY AND SOME INFO ON OUR HERITAGE IS APPROPRIATE The highest form of liberty is freedom of thought. Most people will agree that if they do not receive certain information, they may arrive at the wrong decision. It would be like withholding exculpatory evidence from a judge or jury. When this happens, the judge or jury could very well improperly convict someone. And not intentionally. They were not given important relevant information, and they were unable to arrive at a just outcome. Because it is natural for people, generally speaking, to want to help other people understand things, secular humanists want to let others know that there is some very important information that religious people have not been given. Their religious leaders may not even know about this information. While we sometimes hear that America's heritage is one of being a "Christian" nation, whatever that is supposed to mean, the people who were best informed about religions' involvement with colonists were those people who worked on our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. They were quite aware of how horribly various religious people treated each other, including other Christians. They were aware of the colonies "blasphemy" laws which called for whippings and worse if colonists did not come to church, and accept that colony's flavor of religion. (Not to mention enslaving and/or kiling the people who were already here. Jesus' love works in strange ways.) Not the religious freedom most Americans hear about from modern day Christians. Our religious heritage was not unlike the situation in some Muslim countries now. You better not be a Christian there. or a Sunni in a Shia theocracy, or vice-versa. What did our founders do with this knowledge of how religion treated people? We are one nation under a Constitution. And that Constitution very clearly says "no" to religion. And they said "yes to free speech in the very same first amendment. You have to research and understand the blasphemy laws (which punished free speech) to more fully understand what the founding fathers were telling Americans and clerics. Religion is a private, not a public, matter. Church and state are separate Our pledge of allegiance contained no reference to any god. Nope, dinosaurs were not on earth at the same time as humans.
